Human Library – is a non-profit project; the participation of Living Books and other members is completely voluntary and unpaid.
Our Books are in both Turkish and English. You can read Turkish Books in their original language. If the Book is in a language you do not understand, Human Library might be able to provide you a” dictionary”.
Books should be read for no more than 20 min. After the reading session, they must be returned to the Library.
If the Book that you want to read is currently busy, you can reserve it to read later or choose another one. Actually, we recommend you to read Books that you don’t want read (or feel uncomfortable to read) – this experience may be even more valuable.
Readers, Books, and Librarians should be treated with respect. Be polite, tolerant and respectful to all participants of the event.
The Readers are required to return the Books in the same physical and psychological condition in which they received it. Never harm a Book!
Both Books and Readers can terminate the reading session early if they feel discomfort when dealing with a specific Reader/ Book.
Readers may ask any questions (of course without attempting to intentionally offend a Book), however, the Books have the right not to answer questions that are uncomfortable to discuss (e.g. questions that seem too personal, compromising, offensive, etc.).
Neither Readers nor Books should attempt to propagate their political, religious, and ideological views, or promote a product or service.
The Books’ names or any other identifying information will not be disclosed or published without their individual consent. However, if the Book wants so, it may choose to tell its name (or contact details, details of the organization which represents etc.) to Readers.
Taking pictures and videos with Books is only allowed by permission of Human Library organizers (you can obtain permission at the event itself, and in exchange will have to share your pictures with us). Audio/video recording of reading sessions is possible only with the permission of Books and Readers.
